The number you are allowed to carry is a maximum of 14.
Why take less and limit your options?
The trick to this is have a set where there is not too much distance between them.
Example:
Driver 200 yards
3W 180 yards
5W 165 yards
5i or 7W 150 yards
6i or 9w - 140 yards
7i - 130 yards
8i 120 yards
9i 110 yards
PW 100 yards
Various wedges 50,52,54,56,58,60 - to range from 50 yards to 90 yards - but mainly used for bunker shots or chipping and pitching therefore the distances vary depending on the shot type.
Write down your distances, work out the Carry, and also the Runout,
Links golf is more run than Heathland and Parkland, so the more you understand the distance the more in control you can be. Also remember Up hill and Down hill shots affect distance.
Don't be concerned by the big hitters, we dont all need to hit 300 yard drives, we just need to get the ball from Tee to Green and in the Hole.
Be honest with yourself on your distances, this is here to help you.
If unsure always take the extra club, there is usually more danger protecting the front of the green, so dont be afraid to go long. Anything short has never been holed.
